a small offering
Today I fed the ducks.
Today I fed the geese and the pigeons.
I sprinkled the oats.
I threw the seeds.
I felt connected to what truly matters.
I stood still and watched them. I stood still.
I stood still and watched them. I stood.
Still they would flock to wherever the offering landed.
No hesitation. No pride.
Their wings whispered a language I remembered
from somewhere far back
before becoming someone, before forgetting myself.
I watched the wind blow and the trees submit to its power,
the water rippling like disturbed silk.
His creation so perfect.
And in this moment,
I’m stood still
while everything moves around me
in perfect synchronicity.
The symphony of His excellence
plays along with the beat of my heart.
For a breath, I am not burdened.
Not waiting. Not wanting. Just witnessing.
A girl with open hands,
and a spirit wide enough
to hold wonder again.
